When it comes to hair and makeup I’m rather simple. I tend to just have my eyes dark and I’ll spend around 30 minutes, max, doing my hair. The main part of my hair routine is straightening it so when I was offered the chance to review these xtava Pro-Satin Infrared Straighteners I couldn’t say no.
My Regular Hair Routine
As I said, I’m not someone who likes to spend hours getting ready…for anything. Even on date night I like to spend as little time possible getting ready so I can actually spend time enjoying my husband’s company and wherever we’ve headed off to.
I start by reverse washing my hair (conditioner then shampoo), towel dry and apply two products. One is an argan oil heat protection spray and the other is Mark Hill’s XL Volume Amplifying Serum which gives my hair great volume once it’s dry.
I then dry my hair, straighten, apply styling powder (brand varies) for even more volume, followed by some serious teasing, hairspray then brushing to neaten follow by yet more hairspray. Yes, I use a lot of hairspray.
The longest part of the routine is straightening my hair so a decent pair of straighteners is a must, but the tight arse in me refuses to spend too much – I’ve never owned a pair of GHDs.
Features Of The xtava Pro-Satin Infrared Straighteners
The first thing I noticed about these straighteners is how wide they are, which I think is great. They have an extra-wide, 5-cm bottom floating plate, plus upper Dual-Plate technology that maintains even heat. It means I can straighten more hair at a time and quicker; my current straighteners are a lot thinner so it can take a while.
They heat up super quick, in 90 seconds, and they have an auto-shutoff function. This is vital for me because I’m a bugger for not switching mine off – I have nightmares of coming home to a hole in the carpet, or worse.
The infrared heat technology they use means there is less damage done to the hair cuticles. For someone who regularly dyes their hair, which involves bleach, what I use on my hair matters.
The xtava Pro-Satin Infrared Straighteners have 11 temperature settings ranging from 130°C-230°C allowing you to control how much heat is applied to your hair.
The straighteners come on an 8ft 10in cord that has a 360° swivel and you get a useful insulated bag to store them in, meaning you can put them away without having to worry too much that they’re still hot.
How Do They Stack Up Against My Current Ones?
My current straighteners are a pair of Lee Straffords which are pretty decent. They do their job but it can often take more time than I like. I heat them up while drying my hair and most of the time they are ready once I’m done.
The xtava Pro-Satin Infrared Straighteners heat up much quicker, they straighten more hair at a time and my hair feels a lot healthier after using them; there are no signs of any damage.
I’m actually really impressed with them! In fact, I’ve ditched my other ones in favour of these and I’d recommend them to anyone looking for a mid-price range set (currently selling on Amazon for £29.99).
