The one person I struggle to buy for each year is Aaron; he’s not the biggest fan of Christmas and never really wants anything. This year we decided to treat ourselves to a joint gift of our new bed and mattress but I still need to get him some bits to open so I went on a mission to see what I could find.
Men’s Christmas Gift Guide 2017
As with all my Christmas gift guides, I’ve reached out to brands to see what they have to offer. I’ve had some rather awesome bits come through but I’ll team that with things I’ve found myself.
I don’t know about you but I find scarves annoying, especially children’s scarves – they’re always too short to tie and end up just falling on the floor. Well, Buff have a solution to the annoyance of scarves with their range of neckwear.
The Buff Original simply slips over your head to keep your neck place nice and toasty. In fact, you can wear it in so many different ways that it becomes a clothing staple. If can be pulled up over your nose and ears if it’s really cold, turned inside out then twisted around to make a hat for either the summer or winter or brought up over your head to make a balaclava; to name but a few uses.
I was sent this Star Wars Buff and a child’s version for consideration. This one is being put aside as a gift for a Star Wars obsessed family member but Eban has been making full use of his since it arrived. I’ll include a picture of him wearing it on the Kid’s Christmas Guide (going up shortly after this one. This particular Buff is £17 but prices range across the different styles.
I actually bought Aaron this back in June for Father’s Day and it’s one of his most favourite gifts. Originally I picked it up for him because I thought it was fascinating and something he’d find intriguing being a nerd. It’s become a daily staple of his working life because it sits and stays in his van while driving, unlike his older travel mugs that would often topple.
As you can see from the video, this thing won’t budge unless picked up or REALLY pushed – which is not the point of the mug.
The Mighty Mug can be purchased in many different places and it comes in different sizes and colours. I think it’s a great, unusual gift for anyone who is prone to spilling their drinks.
Quiet Rebellion Socks
What’s a gift guide without socks? I personally get a few pairs of socks every year, normally covered in unicorns or cats. These are great for me because I work from home so can wear whatever I want but they wouldn’t be so tolerated if I worked somewhere with a certain dress code.
This is where Quiet Rebellion come in. This company designs socks that are PERFECT for the more professional workplace. While being worn with shoes they look like regular, boring socks – the kind that go perfectly with a suit and briefcase. But, lurking inside your loafers is a burst of colour and crazy patterns! You can show off your wild personality while still having that professional outward appearance.
This pair of awesome socks was sent to me and arrived in a rather nice envelope, which I wish I had kept – I was too excited to open them. They can be purchased individually for £12 a pair, in sets or as a subscription; getting cheaper the more you buy. They even have a special Christmas Trio available.
If you didn’t already know, Aaron (the husband) is a webcomic artist and blogger; all of his drawings and posts live over on Virtual Wombat. So for his birthday this year (as it was a special one) I decided to grab him a whole bunch of The Oatmeal books.
Obviously, he loves to draw and reading is another thing he loves to do, with that in mind I thought a bunch of rather quirky illustrated books would be perfect for him. I was right. He read many pages to me over the few weeks it took him to read them, he chuckled loads and this gave me the idea to include them in this guide.
Book titles include 5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth, How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You, My Dog: The Paradox: A Lovable Discourse about Man’s Best Friend and How to Be Perfectly Unhappy. So if the man (or woman, or dog) in your life likes things that are a little…strange…then give them the gift of The Oatmeal.
Zippo Handwarmer and Flask
Until recently I always associated Zippo with lighters but apparently they’ve branched out into a range of different items. For this segment of my guide, I’ve received a handwarmer and 6oz Flask and here is why I think they’re great gifts.
The handwarmer is perfect for anyone who has to work outside or for those who enjoy camping. I have family members who are always in contact with the outdoors so this will help keep their fingers nice and toastie. This is being put away for my father-in-law who is a bus driver, with the door opening every few minutes to let people on and off it soon gets chillsome on his routes.
The flask, well that’s just perfect for keeping a drop or two of you’re favourite drink in. Fill it with whiskey or brandy then on Christmas morning you can sit in the chair in the corner and drift off after Christmas dinner. Please drink responsibly!
As I mentioned, Zippo do a huge range of gifts and have something for most people – including their famous lighters and personalised items.
Gillette Fusion Proglide
I will no doubt be putting some form of feminine grooming or beauty product in the woman’s gift guide so I thought it only right to include something for the guys. After all, male grooming has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years. This particular razer was sent to me for this guide and is Gillette’s thinnest, finest blades and claims to pull/tug less – unfortunately, my beard wasn’t up to the test.
So, this is aimed at those guys who don’t want a beard (the strange kind of men). I think it looks well presented and would make either an awesome stocking filler or a simple way to suggest that the man in your life needs to shave. This is obviously available in your supermarket and places such as Boots.
There we have it, my men’s Christmas gift guide for this year. I personally think there are some rather awesome things in there so make sure you check them out.
