When you’re a busy working mum, there just isn’t enough time in the day. Between juggling kids, home, partner, work, exercise and all those other things you need to check off your to-do list, time is a commodity in short supply. We know that and we’ve got you – here are our top time management tips so you can get the most out of your day without tearing your hair out!
Do A Big Grocery Shop Once A Week
Write a list of everything you need, and do a big shop once a week. You are less likely to forget important items, and you’ll save travel time. Buy non-perishables in bulk and calculate how much milk, bread, fruit etc. you’ll get through so that you don’t have to top up during the week. This will free up some valuable family bonding time or even that rare thing, some ‘me time’. Linda Larsen shares her secrets on how to shop efficiently on The Spruce Eats blog.
Establish Sane Work Hours
Everyone craves that work-life balance, but you can take a step towards achieving it by establishing sane working hours that are a good fit for you and your family. Whether you work during school hours or get up early and do a burst of work in the early morning, make sure you’re leaving time for yourself and your home life too.
Ride To Work To Avoid Traffic
This might not be a common suggestion, but you could save so much time by riding to work on a motorbike. You’ll be able to jump the traffic jams and you’ll save yourself time and money! When you are on the search for a suitable motorbike, make sure you research the seller and double-check that they have taken out a trader’s policy too.
Give Up On Multitasking
You might think you’re saving time, but in fact, multitasking is one of the least efficient things you can do. You’re not concentrated on either task and it’s shown to create extra stress for your brain, meaning you’re more likely to forget important steps and have to go back and start all over again. Instead, try out batch tasking – group similar tasks together and do them in a block – you’ll be in the zone and get loads more done. Step Away From The Internet
While you’re working, tap the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on your phone to stop notifications coming through. Consider only accessing Facebook through your browser as this means you’ll be more intentional about it, or even use an app which monitors the time you spend scrolling aimlessly, so you can see just how much time you are really wasting!
